Four questions for Dr. Hulbrock
What training do you have?
I graduated with a B.S. from Stonybrook University and went on to Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery where I received my DDS degree. In addition to the comprehensive education and training provided as part of the Columbia program I interned with Dr. Joseph Marbach, a well know facial pain expert, in his facial pain clinic. After graduation I completed a one-year dental residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital. My education did not end with the completion of my residency. Since I began private practice over twenty-five years ago I have been part of a dental study club that meets to discuss the dental profession, clinical issues, new technology and the education and training needed by both the dentist and his/her staff. This group is one of the few study clubs for which New York State continuing education credits are granted. In addition, I have received training in all aspects of implants and cosmetic dentistry and lecture at the New York County Dental Society. I am a member of the Continuing Education Advisory Committee of the New York County Dental Society. In addition, I coordinate and plan the annual Joseph Marbach Facial Pain Symposium sponsored by the New York County Dental Society. This symposium invites experts on chronic pain from both the dental and medical professions in an effort to provide dentists with the best practices for treating chronic facial pain.
What is your treatment philosophy?
My primary responsibility as a dentist is to enable my patients to maintain good oral health throughout their lives and develop habits that will prevent future problems. I like to keep in mind however, that dentistry is a medical profession first. We provide oral cancer screening, dental hygiene, and suggestions for preventive care. Should you wish to improve your smile, or should it be necessary to provide restorative and rehabilitative procedures, we are well equipped to do so. My onsite dental lab means that I have direct control over all aspects of your restoration.
Do you enjoy your profession?
Absolutely!!! I started my practice in 1980 with a “dream” and one patient. From there I concentrated my focus first and foremost on each patient and grew the practice through the years on patient referrals. My goal has been to put my patients first, and to listen more than talk. I strive to provide caring, comfortable and efficient dental care with respect for patient’s time and personal well being. After 30 years of being a dentist I still find it exciting!
What is your staff like?
Although dentistry starts with me, my dedicated office team works seamlessly to provide you with the most personal professional care. The dental assistants provide me with the support I need to optimize my skills and have been with me for an average of 10 years. We have developed a working relationship that enables them to anticipate my needs and expedite your treatment. In simple terms, they reduce your time in the chair. The front desk staff has been with me even longer which means a warm welcome when you arrive and minimal waiting time for your appointment. The hygiene staff understands my emphasis on prevention and will provide you with an initial exam and a thorough cleaning. All hygiene appointments include an exam by me.
